The Chanthaburi (Province)
Chanthaburi (Thai: จันทบุรี) is important and historic in the eastern part of the country, located about 233 km away from Bangkok. Chanthaburi province is a tourist attraction, both natural and cultural centers.
The provincial seal shows the moon surrounded by an aura. Inside the moon disc is a rabbit, as in Thai folklore the dark areas on the moon form the shape of a rabbit. The seal symbolizes the peace and tranquility of the province. The moon also refers to the provincial name, "City of Moon".
The flag of the province also shows the seal in the middle, a white rabbit on a yellow moon disc, on a blue disc. The background of the flag is red, with the name of the province in yellow written below the seal.
The provincial tree is Diospyros decandra. The provincial flower is an orchid.
The provincial slogan is Magnificent waterfalls, fruit city, good breeding peppercorns, loads of gems, Chanthabun mat, fertile nature, gathering place of King Taksin the Great's Liberation Army. According to ancient history, the town of Chanthaburi was firstly founded in front of the Sa Bab hill in the 18th century B.E. by Chong people, the Mon and Khmer race, The Chongs then settled their communities scattered in Chanthaburi, Rayong, and Trat, particularly along the borderlines between Chanthaburi and Trat where were rich in natural herbs and resources. Later, forest areas lessen; The Chongs have lived their lives as labors and farmers. At present, some of them live in Ban Klong Plu, Amphoe Khao Kitchakoot. In 2200 B.E., Chanthaburi town was relocated at Ban Lum situated on the western bank of the Chanthaburi River. Soon after the collapse of the Ayudhya Kingdom, Phraya Vajiraprakan (King Taksin the Great) together with his 500 military forces had occupied Chanthaburi for 5 months as his military base. After having enough provisions, he together with 5,000 military forces drove Burmese troops out of Thai territory. The historical event is so far the pride of Chanthaburi inhabitants. Memorials monuments and statues were established in the province in honor of King Taksin the Great.

Why invest in the province?
Chanthaburi is the economic center of agriculture and tourist jewel of the eastern part of the country.
The agricultural sector is the highest proportion of gross provincial product in Chanthaburi Province. In 2012, the agricultural sector had a gross domestic product of 56,262 million baht (1,647.98 USD) or 55.76 percent of total GDP. When comparing the data from 1995 to 2012, it is found that the agricultural sector as a whole has a higher gross agricultural product every year. The most important agricultural sectors in Chanthaburi province crops, in Chanthaburi there are the fruit trees, pepper, and rubber.
The most popular fruits in Chanthaburi are mangosteen, durian, and rambutan because Chanthaburi located in the right geography and climate for growing these fruits, Chanthaburi has many of these fruits and in good quality. Especially durians, Chanthaburi is the most productive of durian in Thailand. Another famous fruit of Chanthaburi is Zalacca (Zalacca Nern Wong). The fruits of the province will be marketed between April and June every year. However, the amount of fruit of the province each year is more or less depending on the climate.
Chanthaburi is a very important source of growing pepper. The 95% of Thailand's pepper growing area is in Chanthaburi. Pepper is able to generate income in Chanthaburi province about 30-60 million baht (0.88 – 1.76 Million USD) per year. However, over the years, the area of pepper cultivation has decreased significantly because farmers change to grow other crops instead of growing pepper, soil degradation and cost of production problems.
In terms of rubber, Luang Rajchamaitri (Poom Pun Sri) was the first person to plant rubber in Chanthaburi province, the first area of the Eastern region. In 2008, Chanthaburi farmers planted rubber around 463,799 Rai. The most cultivated area is in Kaeng Hang Meaw. The rubber plantation area is 41.60 per cent of total crops in Chanthaburi. Although, rubber is an economic plantation that generates income for farmers in Chanthaburi, but in many years, rubber prices are falling.
Gems
Chanthaburi is the one of the world's gems capital. The gem mine business in Chanthaburi began when there was no clear evidence but found evidence in the chronicles of King Rama V in 1876 that "people have brought fruits and colorful gems gave to the King". There are many famous gems of Chanthaburi such as sapphire, starch, topaz, and the most famous is the Siam Ruby, which is very famous in the world. These gems are often excavated from mines in the area around Chanthaburi, especially in the area of Khao Ploy Wean and Bang Kaja District which discovered a lot of gems.
However, at present, the quantity of gems discovered in Chanthaburi has been reduced. As a result, foreign gems need to be imported, especially from Madagascar in Africa to be a raw material for gem cutting in Chanthaburi. Gems trading in Chanthaburi will be traded on the gemstone market. Located in the old town of Chanthaburi, there are both Thai and foreign buyers. It is predicted that in a week there is money in the gem market about 200-500 million THB (5.86-14.65 Million USD)
The tourism
Chanthaburi has many natural and cultural attractions. As a result, the tourism of Chanthaburi province made a lot of revenue. According to statistics, each year there will be more tourists and create more income to Chanthaburi people. In 2015, there were 1,869,469 tourist visited Chanthaburi which almost all are Thai (1,791,080 tourists), for the foreigners tourists, there were 78,389 tourists visited Chanthaburi on average length of staying at 2.15 days, these tourists made income to Chanthaburi around 5,263 million THB (154.16 million USD) with an average daily spending at 1,586.07 THB (46.46 USD) per day.

Natural Resources
Soil resources in Chanthaburi province are very rich. Most of the soil is caused by the decomposition of limestone. Soil is suitable for planting economic crops of Chanthaburi. However, Chanthaburi has an inappropriate agricultural area of about 3,000 square kilometers, the most common soil problem is saline soils in coastal areas and soil sloping into water.
Although Chanthaburi is in an area with heavy rains but Chanthaburi still suffers from drought in the province because all the rivers in the province are only short and small. For example, the Chao Phraya River (30 km), the Wang Tan River (8 km), the Daewoo River (88 km) and the Chanthaburi River (123 km), so that the river flows into the Gulf of Thailand quickly.
In addition, if there is too much rain in Chanthaburi, the amount of water may overflow, resulting in flooding in the reservoir area and many dams are created to solve the problem. The important dams and reservoirs are Khiri Rang Dam, Dam Thub Thim and Thung Kuen Dam.
Chanthaburi has the highest forest area in the eastern, accounting for one quarter of the total forest area. However, in the past, Chantaburi Province lost a lot of forest since the province has more than 50% of forest area of the province, most of the forest loss is caused by illegal logging. Invasions of the people and lack of official rigor.
At present, the forest area in Chanthaburi province has been declared as three national parks: The three national parks are: Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park, Khao Kichakut National Park, Preaw Waterfall National Park, and there are three wildlife sanctuaries: Khao Ang-ru-nai Wildlife Sanctuary in Chanthaburi, Khao Soidao Wildlife Sanctuary, Klong Kuawai Wildlife Sanctuary.
For wildlife in Chanthaburi there are 122 mammals, 276 birds, 88 reptiles, 29 amphibians and 47 freshwater fish. Chanthaburi is one of a diverse province.
